Model tests on biogrouted granular columns in soft soil

چکیده
This paper examines the possible use of a bio-cementation process to reduce excessive bulging that occurs during loading granular columns in soft clays. A 12-phase percolation bio-chemical treatment technique was used bio-cement part targeting upper section, where usually occurs. Upon application unit cell surface loads up 350 kPa, placement bio-cemented column substantially reduced vertical strains by 43% 48% compared with an un-cemented and 56% 60% unreinforced kaolin clay for just low replacement ratio 11%. Bulging 62% 75% following mostly occurred less evident. Scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive spectroscopy validated existence calcium carbonate. study presents relatively new alternative reducing using promising approach.

15 صفحه اولUptake in Vegetated Soil Columns
Investigations are currently being conducted at Imperial College into the upward migration of radionuclides from a contaminated water table and their subsequent uptake by plant root systems. This programme includes both experimental studies and related mathematical modelling. Previous work has been primarily with lysimeters. However, these experiments are expensive and somewhat lengthy and the ...
متن کاملNumerical and physical modeling of soft soil slope stabilized with stone columns
There can be many reasons for engineers to place the footings near a slope such as leakage of suitable sites or architectural considerations. One of the approaches to increase the amount of bearing capacity, especially in soft soils, is adding stone columns to the soil. In this research, the behavior of a strip footing placed near a stone column reinforced clayey slope was investigated. For thi...
متن کاملCollapses of two-dimensional granular columns.
The first detailed quantitative observations of the two-dimensional collapse of a granular column along a horizontal channel are presented for a variety of materials. Together with the complementary study for the axisymmetric situation, we conclude that for granular collapses the generally accepted approaches, that are highly dependent on frictional parameters, do not describe the main flow phe...
متن کاملRemoval of trichloroethylene in reduced soil columns.
A continuous soil column experiment was conducted to investigate reductive dechlorination of trichloroethylene (TCE) in soil system reductively manipulated by three types of reductants (Fe(II), dithionite, and Fe(II) + dithionite (combined treatment of Fe(II) and dithionite)). The soil column reduced by Fe(II) + dithionite has the greatest bed volumes (51.8) treated to breakthrough indicating t...
